Want to write a whole lot...been writting in my diary on a daily basis....and will just write the important points...cause i am paying out of my nose for this.
1.On the flight, saw this Greek Orthadox priest....and had an indepth convo with him....he was fantasitc. Got an in depth perspective of their traditions. Quite fantastic.
2. Read an article about "organic stuff". So there is this village in Africa which is the ultimate breeding ground of deathly malaria causing mosquitoes. However, they have been banned from draining thier marsh lands and spraying insecticides, because the developed nations want "organic" products. Is that fair? I dont really know. Does an organic t-shirt for baby george warrant baby "insert african name here"'s death? Donno
3. This question is plaguing me right now. What is the greatest human virtue? Is it courage? Love? Forgiveness? Inquisity? Intelligence? Self Control? Obedience? Self Sacrifice? (This thought is all due to watching Harry Potter....ROFL)
Landing soon.....will continue posting later!
Wow Taffi - I have only read your first entry and I have so many comments! You always make me think.
ReplyDelete1) That is awesome - I would love to hear about what you learned when you get back.
2) Interesting - I don't get why people think that they need to eat organic foods anyway? Though, I do buy organic food sometimes because it tends to last longer, it's Definitely not worth spreading Malaria.
3) Love (all other virtues are meaningless - if not entirely non-existent without it)
1 Corinthians 13
1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Thanks Julie...
ReplyDeletebeing in africa has pushed my brain into directions that are similar to the issues you raise in your second point. people in third world countries have to bear many burdens so that we in the developing world are comfortable. no, i don't think it's fair. organic products can be grown anywhere. we choose some regions over others because they minimize our costs. growing organic crops in other regions may cost manufacturers / suppliers (and in turn consumers) more money, but i think nine out of ten people will accept that. we cannot start putting price tags on human life. where is this village? i'm curious to read more about it.
ReplyDeletei'm not sure if virtues can be independent of one another. perhaps the key is not which you possess most of but that you possess all in equal measure?
i miss your brain, studly.
